My Realization
Seeing myself in a hospital bed, fighting for my life. That was a real motivator for me. I chose to give up the excuses that I used to tell myself. I knew I needed to live to not only manage pre-diabetes, but also to become healthy and to understand what being healthy means.
My Challenge
I didn’t want to be the biggest person in the room. Getting out of bed, rolling over in bed; that was literally the hardest thing you can imagine. My lungs didn’t have the capacity they needed when I had the extra weight. Now, I know that the choices I make add up to the way I’m living and I can have a life that I enjoy.
My Motivation
When I started Real Appeal, I never could have dreamed of running a half marathon. If I can give the gift to everybody who’s been dealing with what I’ve dealt with my whole life, if I can give them the willpower to never, ever, ever, think about going back to their old lifestyle. That’s what keeps me going.

My Plan to Stay Healthy
Learn to Adapt
I now know my weakest point. I avoid being in situations where there are unhealthy foods. If I’m in that room where there are cookies, I know I’m going to grab a cookie, and it’s not going to be just one cookie.
Prep and Track
Mindful eating became a big thing for me. I invested in a cooler and took healthy eating on the road to avoid fast food. And when it came to logging my food, I started seeing results right away.
Inspire Better Health
I gained the confidence needed to go out and set an incredible goal of doing a 5K. Now I’m working as a personal trainer to help others take the first step on their healthy lifestyle journey.
