Vacations are a great opportunity to visit new places, embark on exciting adventures and spend time outdoors. However, being out of our normal routine can also wreak havoc with our healthy daily habits.
If you’ve been trying to lose weight by eating healthy and exercising, don’t worry – there are ways to stay on track while away.
Here are some quick tips:
- Plan ahead. Choose lodging that allows for outdoor exercise, such as walking, jogging or swimming. A hotel exercise room or indoor pool will do if outdoors is not an option.
- Pack healthy snacks that don’t need to be refrigerated. If you’re on the road or your hotel room doesn’t have a refrigerator, dip into your stash of granola bars, nuts, dried fruits or beef or turkey jerky.
- Dine smart. While trying new restaurants, choose entrees based on lean meats such as chicken or fish, and pair with a salad or grilled vegetables.
- Get out and explore! Incorporate at least one physical activity each day. Skip the taxi and take a walking tour around the city. Or, take a timeout from lounging poolside and hike a local trail. You’ll feel great, discover new places and encounter new people – all the joys of traveling to a new destination.
